Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo comes to Saint John

Once again this year I was invited to photograph the animals and staff at Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo show. The theme of the show this year was Diversity of Living Things and included a young 6 month old Cougar as well as ferrets, turtles, snakes, lizards, an alligator and even a vulture. The zoo keepers are very knowledgable and really care for these animals. 80% of the animals in their care are rescues from unwanted homes or illegal imports to the country. The cougar that they have is on loan from another facility after she was rejected by her mother and needed hands on full-time care. Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo is accredited by CAZA/AZAC and regularly works with the OSPCA, municipal, provincial, and federal authorities for the placement of seized and unwanted reptiles and amphibians. What this means is that they not only have to meet certain levels of animal keeping and care but they are also regularly visited and inspected to make sure that these standards of care are up to snuff. It is an honour to work with such a wonderful organization.

Here are a few of my favourite images from my visit and subsequent photo shoot.

My son Odin even got a chance to sit with the turtle and hold a snake.

Thank you again to the crew at Little Ray’s. I had a great time photographing you and my family had a wonderful time taking in your informative shows and exhibit. I look forward to seeing you again next year.
